“For the mountains may move and the hills disappear, but even then, my faithful love for you will remain. My covenant of blessing will never be broken,” says the Lord, who has mercy on you” (Isaiah 54:10).

God’s expressions of love began at creation and span both covenants. He has been affirming and reaffirming that love since the beginning of time. His love was fully displayed in the completed work of Jesus the Messiah on the Cross. And to receive His love each day is to honor Him.

However, He gets the blame for the consequences of our rebellion. He is believed to be harsh and unloving when all hell breaks loose: when relationships break up, when wars break out, when the earth shakes, and the mountains move. These conflicts are not because of Him. We simply don’t recognize the ancient, invisible enemy of our soul, and someone has to take the blame for injustice. We certainly don’t want to be held responsible for our disobedience, lack of mercy, and negative judgments.

We all long for true justice and fight for what we believe to be just. When there has been injustice, we need the protection of law and order and decisions made in our favor. God feels the same way. His justice is love. His natural and spiritual law of sowing and reaping is for our benefit.

What is God’s plan for His sons and daughters who come under His rulership? He said: “Your enemies will stay far away. You will live in peace, and terror will not come near. If any nation comes to fight you, it is not because I sent them. But in that coming day no weapon turned against you will succeed. You will silence every voice raised up to accuse you. These benefits are enjoyed by the servants of the Lord; their vindication will come from me. I, the Lord, have spoken!” (vs. 14-17).

Because conflicts are ever-present, may we come to see and understand what God judges to be right and wrong, good and evil. He is our Rescuer and our Vindicator. We must settle it in our hearts once and for all that He can be trusted to be our Lord. His faithful love is our spiritual weapon. Because of His mercy, His covenant of blessing will never be broken.
