NAVIGATING SPIRITUAL WHITEWATER

A dangerous stretch of spiritual and cultural whitewater is approaching. Those who have been trained by faith will possess the necessary skills required to safely navigate the coming rapids

My son-in-law is an expert kayaker. He has kayaked challenging rapids both in the United States and overseas. It amazes me the level of skill and river knowledge required to move through raging rapids and over waterfalls that would be the demise of most of us.

I have learned that rapids have official categories. Like Class VI for the most dangerous and almost impassible rapids all the way down to the small riffle-like rapids designated as Class I. Then there is something called Frog Water. Frog Water defines the still, wide stretches of water where a river feels like a lake, seemingly motionless. Kayakers don’t care for Frog Water. Kayaks were designed to move forward and dart around obstacles, not just float along.

Some Frog Waters exist just before kayakers enter deep canyons where a rapid descent, huge rapids, and waterfalls await. The vertical rock walls of these can canyons climb straight up from water level for hundreds of feet. They offer no way of escape should trouble come. Once committed, a run down these canyons of whitewater puts a kayaker in extreme jeopardy should they overturn and lose control.

As challenging and unusual as the last two years have been, they are only Frog Water compared to what is coming. We are about to enter a very narrow spiritual canyon to make a run through imposing cultural whitewater. This passage will resemble a kayaker entering a narrow gorge with no other options but to call on their faith skills to keep them upright, afloat, and moving forward.

If you are a follower of Jesus Christ and have lived under His Lordship, you have been prepared for what is coming. Do not let the lies of hell cause unnecessary fear as the Frog Water ends and the rapids appear. The canyon experience will not last forever. It is a transition – a transition that can only be navigated with trust and faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. That faith and trust have prepared you to run the approaching whitewater.

What a perfect analogy to our current state of affairs personally and collectively. How reassuring and timely is your message as it lends hope to those who follow our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and place their trust in him. He is the ultimate navigator, for he says, “I will never leave you nor for sake you, for I am with you always, even till the end of the world.” let the waters rage and the canyon walls intimidate and evoke fear, for our Lord’s promises are yes and amen. Thank you Garris.
