On the side of our property is an old fence. It’s at least 40 years old, maybe older. A vine was planted along the fence years ago and has since grown up and outside the original supporting structure of a trellis nailed to the fence. Over the years, the vine grew and became large and expansive moving up and over the fence. Each year the plant reveals a beautiful array of colors in our front yard.
The trellis no longer defines the original planting. A trellis serves an original purpose but is never intended to keep a plant a static representation of what was originally planted. A trellis supports the beginning of the growth of the plant.
Look beyond the original manifestation of your faith. Does it accurately depict your life in this season? You have become more than what was first planted. Your faith has grown out of its original place of planting and is now touching places in your life that you did not expect when you first said “yes” to Jesus. That is the nature of an ever-increasing faith.
“Your faith is increasing abundantly, and the love of each and every one of you toward one another grows ever greater” (II Thessalonians 1:3).
