STEPPING INTO THE FLOOD

There are times when the Lord will ask us to step into a situation that, according to a natural interpretation of an outcome, would spell our doom. Those who take these steps of faith, steps that contradict conventional wisdom and human reasoning, will be the ones who move deeper into a fuller expression of their destiny – a destiny that would not have been realized had they remained safely on the shore of predictability and safety.

As the nation of Israel prepared to cross the Jordan River, the following took place, “So, the people left their camp to cross the Jordan, and the priests who were carrying the Ark of the Covenant went ahead of them. It was the harvest season, and the Jordan was overflowing its banks. But as soon as the feet of the priests who were carrying the Ark touched the water at the river’s edge, the water above that point began backing up a great distance away at a town called Adam, which is near Zarethan. And the water below that point flowed onto the Dead Sea until the riverbed was dry. Then all the people crossed over near the town of Jericho” (Joshua 3:14-16).

The Ark carried the presence of God. It was the presence of God carried by the priests that parted the waters. We never take a step into the flood waters of life alone. The Lord is always present when our faith is exercised. He will always make a way.

A phrase in the above verses caught my attention, “It was the harvest season.” Before we enter a season where a promised spiritual harvest awaits our arrival, we will need to pass through an obstacle that will loudly proclaim, “You can’t make it.” It’s in those moments of raw obedience that miracles happen.

Some of you are standing on the banks of an impossible situation. It appears there is no way to cross over. That would be true if it were not for your trust in God to make a way when no way seems possible. As you step out into the thin air of obedience, a way will open to the harvest of what is waiting on the other side of your crossing. Take the step and trust the Lord. His presence will turn a raging river of impossibility into a dry pathway leading you to the harvest the Lord has prepared for this season of your life.
