SURVIVING SEASONS OF RAPID CHANGE

Having served the Lord for many years, I’ve come to realize there is a single element in life that has remained constant in all those years – change. Change is not in the product itself but in the delivery systems used to bring a product to us.

I remember when the first videos first came into our homes. After a couple of years, Blockbuster emerged as the king of the business with stores located in cities across the nation. Then Netflix came along allowing us to download a movie from the comfort of our homes without having to drive to a video store. Now, many other providers have come to the Internet diminishing Netflix’s stronghold hold on the market, just like it was for Blockbuster. The movies are still coming, but the choice and variety of their delivery have changed.

Rapid and repeated change is occurring in our world at a speed and pace that can be hard to manage. In all those changes, our message doesn’t change. We can get lost trying to keep up with all the latest applications and expressions of our faith and become overwhelmed with what to do and how to live.

The Lord has provided a solution for us in times when so much change is happening and we don’t know which way to go. “The Lord has told you what is good, and this is what he requires of you: to do what is right, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God” (Micah 6:8). Reducing our life to those simple elements can have a profoundly positive effect on people.

If a person in a relationship with Jesus can do what is right, love mercy, and walk humbly before God, no change can overwhelm that expression of faith. If we have become confused and stalled with all the change happening in our world, doing those three things will keep our faith alive and impactful in seasons of rapid change.

All the delivery systems in life will constantly change, but not the basics of our faith. That kind of faith does what is right, loves mercy, and walks humbly before the Lord. No change has power over those elements of the delivery system of God’s love.
