It’s too easy to view human opposition to the will of God as an insurmountable obstacle. What we can also too easily forget is that any form of human defiance to God’s will eventually become a weapon the Lord will use against the defiers to protect His people and expand His Kingdom. That defiance will be turned against the perpetrators of evil because, in the end, it will be used to reveal God’s glory.  

“You stand up to judge those who do evil, O God, and to rescue the oppressed of the earth. Human defiance only enhances your glory, for you use it as a weapon” (Psalm 76: 9-10).

This defiance has been translated in Scripture as a poison that will infect its perpetrators. It is the equivalent of a person turning a weapon against themselves and bringing an end to what they had planned.

This is why, as we look at what is happening in the world, we should never fret or be dismayed. The Lord has a plan that cannot be fulfilled by human effort. While we should cooperate with God in the process, only the Lord can turn human defiance into a weapon against those who refuse to listen to His voice.  What the Lord will do regarding human defiance will look like a spiritual boomerang returning to its sender.
