As people become awakened to the reality of an unseen spiritual war taking place for the hearts and minds of individuals and nations, a phrase has come to light in recent decades – The Deep State. The Deep State is defined as a body of people, influential members of government, and the military believed to be involved in the clandestine manipulation and control of government policy. While only the very naïve would not consider such activity exists, it should not be our focus if we want to partner with God to dismantle what is behind the scene directing Deep State activity. 

We are living in a unique time in history. Some of what was considered the stuff of conspiracy theorists is now uncomfortably emerging as something real. Diversions from the course of law one would expect to be investigated have taken on a Teflon-like coating creating diversions of our short attention spans allowing crimes to slip off the offenders without consequence. Who or what is causing this?

Too many in the Church eat what they are informationally fed as the truth depending on the palate of their bias. In that intellectually satiated state we draw natural weapons to conduct the kind of warfare that can only be won for God’s glory with the weapons of spiritual warfare – tools of war not found in the arsenals of nations or within our undisciplined personal opinions.

The dismantling of any secretive Deep State cabal cannot occur when we continue to chase after the never-ending tidbits of enticing information that repeatedly leads us to natural-world evidence that blinds our sight and empowers our passions.

The Lord is enlisting His troops to conduct a more significant battle. This is a battle that takes place in the realm of the Spirit where high-level demonic forces pull the puppet strings on blind and willing Deep State players who feel emboldened because they feel immune from discovery and intervention. 

What does this mean for the average believer? It means a deeper understanding must be grasped regarding the affairs of this world. The fatal shot into the heart of darkness will take place outside the aim of our five senses or the trail of crumbs left behind that we were told to follow. All followers of Jesus have available to them the supernatural insight of the Spirit that allows them to pull back the curtains of secrecy to see who and what is pulling the strings on the world stage.

Scripture tells us, “You do not have because you do not ask” (James 4:2). Today, ask the Lord to pull back the curtain to reveal the powers that manipulate the Deep State puppets. Ask the Lord to help you see the “principalities, powers, and rulers of the darkness in this world, against the spiritual wickedness in high places” (Ephesians 6:12).

All effective spiritual battle plans begin with an inquisitive prayer asking the Lord to show us the real enemy – an enemy our natural eyes cannot see. The answer to that prayer will reveal a Deeper State of Affairs where the kingdom of darkness conducts its battle plans. That battle is where the greatest victories for God’s Kingdom expansion await our attention.
