A missionary working in Central Africa in the 1950s spoke of what were called “talking drums.” Talking drums were relay stations that used the sound of drums to deliver messages across distant valleys and through dense jungles.

The drumbeat of the Spirit, the sound of God’s heart, is currently being transmitted by the relay of faithful voices traveling across the valleys of social division and through the dense walls of censorship and opposition that have been placed in the way to prohibit the message of truth from being received.

Now is a time to purposefully still our souls and listen for the distant drumbeat of God’s Spirit. The drumbeats of the Spirit are quiet at first, heard only by the discerning. They are not a loud sound like the deafening drumbeats produced by a rock band drummer. The first sounds of the distant drumbeats of the Spirit require a quieted soul to hear the message and prepare for what is coming. 

“Let anyone with ears listen!” (Matthew 11:15).
