We are living in a unique moment of history where faithlessness is gaining ground. I have heard people say, “That will never happen!” That statement has been used across the board to address issues of faith, civic life, and the affairs of nations. Each day, more and more believers have given up believing for the impossible and have joined the sad faithless chorus of those who do not yet know the God of miracles. Believing for divine intervention has fallen out of style.

I have another take on the issue. I believe we are living in what I would call a “It can absolutely happen!” moment of time. The Lord wants to resurrect the faith of His people so we would not so easily accept a bland and boring life of faith void of the possibility of supernatural intervention.

The Lord is able, at any moment, to do what many have written off as impossible. This is not just prophetic hype.  Our hope is not in the results of the next election, the stability of our economy or whether people who have been blinded to truth will finally see the light. Our hope is in God alone, the Great Intervener.

The only acceptable time to use the word “never” is when it applies to the unfailing love of God. “I will never fail you. I will never abandon you” (Hebrews 13:50). All the other usages of the word “never” are the vocabulary of people who have given up hope.
