Scripture tells us “The gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable” (Romans 11:29).  That verse refers to God’s faithfulness to empower our unique gifts and fulfill our specific calling. On our end of the equation, our gifts and calling can be discarded, abandoned, or ignored because of fear, sin, or a lack of understanding. 

The gifts and callings of God are both powerful and vulnerable. They are powerful when we rely on God, not our native talent, to accomplish their intended purpose. They become vulnerable when we lack the integrity required to steward any measure of success or when we seek the favor and affirmation of people more than we seek the favor and affirmation of the Lord. The latter will lead to a place of compromise that will disempower our gifts and cause the mooring of our calling to be severed setting us adrift.

Integrity stewards our gifts and calling through seasons of doubt, personal attack, betrayal, temptation, and success. How we respond to each of those experiences will determine whether our gifts and calling will continue to function at the level of their God-assigned potential. The Lord has made the decision to never revoke our gifts or calling. Whether we continue to function and prosper in them is our choice to make.
