This is Why

On the Day of Pentecost, no one was expecting the events to unfold as recorded in Scripture. It was a complete surprise, even though the prophet Joel spoke of the events of Pentecost 800 years before they happened.

In John 20, days before Pentecost took place, the disciples were locked away in fear.  Jesus supernaturally appeared in that locked room and breathed His Spirit into His disciples creating the first born again humans – the first new creations of a New Covenant. In that breath, similar to the creative breath of Jesus when He breathed life into Adam and created the first human, a new spiritual race of people was created.

When the Day of Pentecost arrived, the disciples, now indwelled by the Spirit, came to Pentecost to be anointed by the Lord for the work of ministry. They were not gathered in fear this time. They were gathered in faith and obedience to the words of Jesus in Acts 1 where He instructed His disciples, “Do not leave Jerusalem until the Father sends you the gift He promised.”

On Pentecost Sunday, we actually celebrate the breath of God. As He did in Acts 2, God loves to surprise us with the sudden exhale of His breath. Today, on this Pentecost Sunday 2017, don’t try to recreate something that happened 2,000 years in history. Each record of God’s breath brought something so new it was not definable by the recipients. God is about to breathe upon you with the breath of His Spirit. The exhale of His breath will release a new season in your personal life and in your place of ministry.

As a child of the God, your voice has been empowered to release His life-giving breath speaking words of hope and resurrection life to a world trapped in death and despair. That is why Pentecost happened in our history and that is why it is a promise that will occur at the beginning of each new season of your unfolding future. That is something to celebrate!
