Isaiah prophesied this word: “We are surrounded by the walls of God’s salvation” (Isaiah 26:1). The essence of that ancient word to Judah applies to us today, thousands of years after it was spoken and after Jesus rose from the dead to ensure our salvation.
We see and believe and trust God to accomplish our salvation. We declare to Him: “You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you. Trust in the Lord always, for the Lord God is the eternal Rock” (vs. 3-4).
Isaiah continued, “Lord, you will grant us peace; all we have accomplished is really from you. O Lord our God, others have ruled us, but you alone are the one we worship” (vs. 12-13).
All we accomplish is really from Him. To believe His gift of peace in life and in death cannot be experienced apart from the Prince of Peace. We can “discipline” ourselves to be at peace, but it is short-lived. Yet, when we turn to Peace Himself, and take part with Him, one with Him, in communion together with Him, we can identify with His death and resurrection. Our old nature and its ways of coping can be put to death, and we can make an exchange—His divine nature being formed in us. He gives us resurrection life daily, and what stands against our peace will be consumed in His love.
It is His revelatory light that will keep us safe and surrounded, enclosed in His love as we navigate through our time on Earth and even when we face death.
“Those who die in the Lord will live; their bodies will rise again! Those who sleep in the earth will rise up and sing for joy! For your life-giving light will fall like dew on your people in the place of the dead!” (vs. 19).
