Have you ever doubted that you have eternal life? The Apostle John wrote a letter for that very purpose. We can know with assurance, without a shadow of a doubt, that we have eternal life. “Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have God’s Son does not have life” (I John 5:11-12).

When you believe that Jesus is the Messiah, you’ve been given eternal life, and this life has its source in Him. It means that you became God’s spiritual child, fathered by Him personally. It means your faith in Jesus makes you a world conqueror, defeating its power.

We know who we believe in because we accept the authoritative testimony of God that Jesus is His Son at His water baptism and by the blood of His Cross. We know who we believe in because we have a living testimony of Jesus in our hearts. We know who we believe in because Jesus made our understanding come alive. We can know by experience that He is God’s Son—the true God. He is Eternal Life.

We show our true love and gratitude for Him by obeying Him. To love and obey Him does not weigh us down like heavy burdens. In fact, to obey Him—to insist that all come under His Lordship—is to live in triumph—protected by Him from the misery and influence of the Evil One.

May we guard ourselves from worshipping anything but Him. May we gain such confidence that we can also have great boldness before Him to make any request agreeable to His will—and He will hear us, and give us the requests we ask of Him (see I John 5).
