PURE LIGHT

Trying to change ourselves never works. We cannot manage our sin well enough to become holy, grow more like Jesus, or please Him. Most of us have tried—and failed. Our hope rests securely in this truth: God is pure light, and in Him there is no darkness at all. We share in who He is and what He has done—and we share one heart—only as we keep living in the pure light that surrounds Him.

How do we stay in that light? God made it simple. One of the few things we can actually do is live with nothing hidden. We trust Him enough to obey Him. On that basis, our oneness of heart with Him is maintained and can begin to increase.

Even when we struggle to trust anyone else, we can still choose to entrust everything to Him. He will never violate our will, so that choice to trust delights Him. Only He can reform and transform our beliefs, thoughts, and actions. Only He can form His own nature in us during our time on earth.

If we keep stepping into darkness and hide it, we deceive ourselves when we claim to share life with God. Without honesty and openness about our sin, we remain in the shadows and rarely experience His love, grace, and freedom. There is no power in a hidden life (see 1 John 1:5-9).

In Christ we are already fully forgiven, fully accepted, and complete through His sacrificial death on the cross. Yet through the ongoing confession of sin—walking in His light—our conscience is cleansed and purified. And the pure in heart will see God.

We must also walk in the light with one another—brother with brother, sister with sister, in genuine community. We can fool ourselves for a season when we keep sin private, but it becomes far harder when we confess each time before Jesus and before trustworthy friends. Scripture is clear: “Confess your sins to one another” (James 5:16).

When we walk in the pure light that surrounds Jesus, the obstacles to a shared life with Him are removed. His blood continually cleanses us from all sin. We experience real freedom. And our hearts become soft and shapeable under the power of His Spirit.
