IN TIMES OF PERIL

If you are paying attention to what is happening in our world, you will realize we are living in a time of great peril. The war in Ukraine has nuclear and world war potential. The conflict between Israel and Iran may escalate and draw other nations into a larger regional conflict.

The security of our financial condition in the United States is an illusion. We are carrying over 34 trillion dollars in national debt. If each man, woman, and child could pay their portion of that debt, it would require each person to pay $100,000.00 to eradicate it. We are printing money based on nothing to back it up our currency but a promise from the government to pay the note as those notes daily diminish in their purchasing power. We are living in a modern version of the Weimar Republic of Germany in the days preceding World War II.

Perversions and demonic demonstrations are being portrayed by the entertainment industry smearing hellish demonstrations of darkness in our faces. All of this is being done on purpose and according to a plan not realized by those who are under its influence and control.

While all this is happening, God’s word reveals another plan, a God-plan. “The Lord frustrates the plans of the nations and thwarts all their schemes. But the Lord’s plans stand firm forever; his intentions can never be shaken” (Psalm 33: 10-11). At the very moment when all these dark manifestations are taking us deeper into despair, the Lord will reveal Himself and frustrate the plans of the evil one.

The Psalmist goes on to say that joy awaits the people of God whom He has chosen as His inheritance (vs.12). The Lord looks down from heaven knowing fully what is happening. He sees us all from His throne and understands everything we do (vs. 13-15).

When we finally realize the instability and peril that surrounds our lives, our first response can be to look for rescue in the strength of our armies and government institutions. But here is the reality, “The best-equipped army cannot save a king, nor is great strength enough to save a warrior. Don’t count on your warhorse to give you victory – for all its strength, it cannot save you” (vs. 16-17).

The Lord has given us a promise in our trouble – He watches over those who fear Him, those who rely on Him, not on natural means of rescue. When we enter a perilous time, like the one in which we are living, we need to take the Lord’s promise of His loving rescue into the depths of our fearful hearts and allow His love to envelop us, “Let your unfailing love surround us, Lord, for our hope is in you alone” (vs 22).

Writing out the words of that verse opened once again the door to a deeper hope for me and hopefully, it will do the same for all who are reading these words.  When the unfailing love of God surrounds us it will change how we reinterpret what we are seeing taking place in our world. It will also redefine our future as we walk deeper into hope, not despair.
