PREPARING TO HEAR A DEEPER REVELATION

When we pray for a deeper revelation of God’s truth, we must prepare our hearts for what will be revealed. An unprepared heart will be overcome by fear because they are not ready to hear the truth and are enslaved by the thoughts of a natural and unredeemed mind. We will see things we could not imagine before the truth was made known by the Spirit revealing a different reality. Paul’s instructions in I Corinthians 2 inform us on how to prepare for what we will see as the Lord reveals things not previously imagined.

Paul said, “When I am among mature believers, I do speak with words of wisdom, but not the kind of wisdom that belongs to this world or the rulers of this world” (I Corinthians 10:6). This revelation does not come from our time in rank within the Church or the level of our education and our experience. It is available only to those who have allowed God to mature their faith.

What will be revealed to us are mysteries disclosed only by the Spirit. These mysteries have been hidden for a revelation at precise moments in history. “The wisdom we speak of is the mystery of God – his plan that was previously hidden, even though he made it for our ultimate glory before the world began” (vs. 7).

We need to prepare our hearts to not be shocked or surprised at what the Spirit tells us. “No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined what God has prepared for those who love him” (vs. 9). These revelations come from a place outside our wildest imaginations. They are treasures of God’s truth reserved for those who love Him.

“It was to us that God revealed these things by his Spirit. For his Spirit searches out everything and shows us God’s deep secrets” (vs. 10). The deep secrets of God are revealed because the Spirit has searched all things and will make known those truths to a prepared heart.

There will be a confrontation with the spirit of the world when a deeper truth is revealed and conflicts with the conclusions formed by a natural mind. “And we have received God’s Spirit (not the world’s spirit), so we can know the wonderful things God has freely given us” (vs. 12). When God shares these deeper truths, it they will be wonderful to hear and will bring order to the confusion we see taking place in the world.

These revelations will employ the language of the Spirit that can sound strange to those held captive by the language and spirit of the world.  “When we tell you these things, we do not use words that come from human wisdom. Instead, we speak words given to us by the Spirit, using the Spirit’s words to explain spiritual truths” (vs 13).

When God speaks, there will be times when it is like we are assembled in a large room and only a few mature ones who are present can interpret what is being said. “People who aren’t spiritual can’t receive these truths from God’s Spirit. It all sounds foolish to them, and they can’t understand it, for only those who are spiritual can understand what the Spirit means” (vs. 13-14).

The preparation we need is to make sure we have a humble and submitted heart to the voice of the Spirit. That preparation will prepare us to hear the voice of God and not a counterfeit that sounds religious but was crafted by the limited language and shallow language of the world. There is peace and trust that will come to those who are prepared. That peace will take us deeper into the heart of God where we will see things we could not imagine.

The Holy Spirit bears witness, Garris. So deep, so needed. His sheep “know His Voice”. “He who has an ear to hear, let him hear what the Spirit is saying to the Churches.” Rev. 3:22
