I have been talking with friends who are in a major transition. The fact is, while we have been going through our own personal transitions, the whole world also entered a major transition. It adds a weightiness to what we are personally processing, and sometimes we get the two mixed up.
Don’t mistake confusion for unanswered questions. And just because you are restless or you don’t fit where you once belonged doesn’t mean you are confused. These painful stretches of growth may feel like we are living in “no man’s land,” and it can throw us off balance. Someone described it as “the space between the no longer and the not yet.” Jan and I call it “the divine space.”
Transitions help shed light on false beliefs and misguided ways of thinking. Transitions are a place of deliverance and healing that turn our turmoil to our advantage. Transitions serve God’s Kingdom purposes. A door has closed, and a new door has opened, even if we don’t recognize it yet.
When confusion, discouragement, grief, and sadness melt your life’s strength, let God’s Word be your voice in prayer (see Psalm 119:29-37, 44-45, 89-91 paraphrased):
Father, keep me from lying to myself and making a mess of my life. Help me turn my eyes away from illusions so that I pursue only your truth—not what I decide is true.
May my heart bow before your words of wisdom—not what the world has to offer.
My happiness is found walking with you in complete freedom, in the light of all that you teach me, and in choosing to obey your truth faithfully.
Reveal the meaning of your ways and guide me into the paths that bless you and honor you.
Your Eternal Word stands firm in the heavens, fastened to eternity.
As enduring as the earth you created, your faithfulness flows to every generation.
By your decree, everything you made serves your plans.
God has prescribed the right way to live. Whether we know the next step in front of us or not, the only true happiness is to walk in the light of His Word. May we live always to follow Him and to obey His truth.
