To remember God’s goodness is an act of worship. We start to actually experience His goodness and are being changed in the process. Remembering moves Him to do again in us, in our time, what He did in the past.
As a reminder to myself, I turned the words of the Psalmist into a prayer of gratitude (see Psalm 103 TPT paraphrased):
Father, every desire is satisfied by your goodness. With my whole heart and my life, I bow in wonder before you. My soul celebrates you. Everything in me blesses you.
May I never forget the miracles of goodness and kindness you do for me. You make things right, and you give justice to the defenseless.
You forgive me despite all that I have done. You rescued me from hell, saved my life, delivered me, and healed me of every disease.
You are kind and tenderhearted when I don’t deserve it. You are so patient when I fail you.
You don’t hold a grudge against me when you see my faults. You don’t get even with me for what I’ve done.
It is your mercy that you discipline me for my sins—though never as much as I really deserve.
You removed my guilt as far as the east is from the west!
You are my Father, and I am your child. You crown me with love and mercy and make me royalty, even though you know me inside and out—knowing that I am made of clay.
When I honor you with awe and reverence, your tenderness and compassion become my reality. Your endless, unbroken, unrelenting love stretches across eternity. Your mercy extends higher than the highest heavens. Your loyal love is greater than the grandeur of heaven.
Your faithfulness to keep every promise you graciously made passes from parents to children to grandchildren and beyond. You are faithful to all who follow your ways and keep your Word.
Your heavenly throne is eternal, secure, and strong. Your Kingdom rules the entire universe, and your mighty angels listen to the voice of your Word to carry out your plans.
