I just took a truckload of debris to the dump. It reminded me of walking through my social media accounts of late. In those accounts are so many varied opinions about so much. After I paid my bill, I was directed to a large disposal center where huge tractors were receiving our loads and compacting them. The facility was larger than a football field.
When in a culture, and even at times within the Church, we are processing so much information what we bring to download in the public sphere can appear like a lot of garbage. Everybody has an opinion.
Jesus told His disciples moments before He was arrested, “There is so much more I want to tell you, but you can’t bear it now. When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own but will tell you what he has heard. He will tell you about the future. He will bring me glory by telling you whatever he receives from me” (John 16:12-14).
The phrase, “When the spirit of truth comes”, references the truth representing God and executing His purposes through Christ. It is the same word used in John 14:6, where Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life and no one comes to the Father except through me.” It is a very singular invitation.
If you cannot figure out what is debris and what is truth, only Jesus can provide that kind of insight. To hold onto Him, as taught in Scripture, you may appear out of touch with the passing opinions of people, as popular as they might appear. At one point, in a strategic moment in human history, Jesus will stand above all the things we bring to the dump. Only by understanding Him as the way of truth, that single truth will keep us safe.
We seem to be heading to the debris pile with more and more human opinion on a daily basis!!! More and more we need to call on Holy Spirit to teach us in all things! He WILL sort it for us. Amen
Amen. We need Heaven’s filter.
Jesus pretty much covers it all, at least all that matters and what should matter to us—He being the way, the truth, and the life.
Everything He said must come about by the Spirit, through the Spirit and for the Spirit, because he’s about the will of the Father.
Flesh opposes the will of God, but the Spirit embraces.
