THE FULL GOSPEL

All of Scripture is for our instruction and has revealed God’s actions throughout history. They reveal a pattern for our future. Jesus told us to remember His past acts of deliverance. He is the same, yesterday, today, and forever (Malachi 3:6 & I Corinthians 10:11 & Hebrews 13:8).

Some teachers dismiss or only teach parts of the Old Testament. I’ve also heard people say, “just read the words in red.” Only the words of Jesus are given credence, even though it is not a full representation of Him. Their message fits more with the spirit of the age than with the Spirit of God. The Sermon on the Mount is embraced by a “progressive” theology, but Jesus had far more to say than His beautiful sermon.

Genesis to Revelation is a revelation of Jesus. The Apostle John wrote: Jesus “existed in the beginning with God. God created everything through him, and nothing was created except through him. The Word gave life to everything that was created, and his life brought light to everyone” (John 1:2-4).

The Old Testament reveals the truth about creation and the nature of God as Creator. It reveals truth about the nature of humans. Scripture that speaks specifically to Israel reflects God’s heart and mind for the world. Israel was called to be a light to the nations, to attract and draw them to God.

For example: 500 years before the birth of Jesus, the prophet Zechariah wrote: “Rejoice, O people of Zion! Shout in triumph, O people of Jerusalem! Look, your king is coming to you. He is righteous and victorious, yet he is humble, riding on a donkey—riding on a donkey’s colt” (Zechariah 9:9).

This prophecy described the Lord’s Triumphal Entry into Jerusalem. Matthew, Mark, and John all referenced this text from Zechariah when they recorded Jesus’ entry into the city just days before His crucifixion.

It is a serious error by revisionists to dismiss Scripture. May we repent of picking and choosing only Scripture we like or understand.
