In every generation, a rude awakening will take place to awaken slumbering people to the reality and presence of God. That rude awakening will open the door for a great awakening that will transform culture.
A rude awakening is not something that violates a prudish sensibility of approved decorum. It is an upheaval of all things that have become idols and distractions in our lives when we transferred our trust from God and placed it in our personal strength and human systems to become our deliverer.
We are currently in the middle of a rude awakening. Its arrival is an indicator that a great awakening is upon us. The greater the rudeness in the early stages of an awakening the greater our hope should be because the disruption taking place is an indicator that God is about to move in a profound way.
“Therefore once more I will astound these people with wonder upon wonder; the wisdom of the wise will perish, the intelligence of the intelligent will vanish” (Isaiah 29:14).
Solomon observed that “all progress among mankind results from one man’s envy of his neighbor.” The hungry envy those with food. The weak envy the powerful. The wealthy envy the possessions, travel and fame of their peers.
Paul stated that envy (covetousness) is idolatry.
A rude awakening resets the baseline of desire, toppling the idols that we adopt to give meaning to lives that lack noble pursuits. Paul’s admonition “Finally, brothers, think on these things……” is the way that we maintain an idol-free life!
A rude awakening, is when what you believe ain’t working. Sense realm control instead of faith. When you wake up and find HIS voice ringing in your heart.
